Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour, Sydney
Wheelie Long Points:
With the exception of the poor shower drainage (yes, the entire floor got wet), this was without a doubt the most wheelchair-friendly hotel I've experienced so far in Sydney. I had no problems with maneuvering my scooter in and around the room and bathroom. The doors were wide enough for me (82cm and 99cm) and the gap under the semi-recessed basin and bench was fine at 55cm. Grab rails, flick mixers and shower seat all there, as you would expect. In addition to everything being more than adequate for my wheels, we experienced an outstanding example of pre-emptive customer service. We received a note under our door from the assistant manager advising us of an in-house function that would be taking place on the floor below us. The note assured us that the function would conclude by midnight and that even though the hotel was full, another room had been reserved in our name in case we wanted to move. Unfortunately, the note continued, the other room did not have the same accessibility but we were welcome to switch if we so desired. Wow! We have never had that kind of thoughtful customer service ever and were delighted by the gesture. As it turned out, we chose to stay in the accessible room and didn't hear a peep from the function. Well done Crowne Plaza. Note: The Crowne Plaza is now known as The ParkRoyal Darling Harbour |
