Pride Go-Go Ultra Scooter
Wheelie Long Points:
I bought my Pride Go-Go Ultra Scooter, named 'Little Red', in September 2005. I had a number of problems with it and in April 2006, Pride replaced it with a completely new one, which I have had since. Apart from a few battery replacements, it has been great. My husband lifts it in and out of the car for me when we go shopping and when we travel. Unlike the Go Chair, the Go-Go Ultra scooter handles diverse terrain quite well and it is my conveyance of choice for most of our trips away. Little Red has four wheels and a turning radius of 109cm. The three-wheel version has a smaller turning radius (81cm) and is lighter and shorter, however I prefer the extra stability offered by four wheels. Little Red is great for use wherever there is a consistent driving surface and I need something that is easily transportable. I take her shopping, have taken her on domestic flights and even on a cruise with no problems. A travel scooter doesn't offer the same maneuverability as a travel chair, however it does have the benefit of providing a greater feeling of security on roads and footpaths, particularly when crowded. It has a top speed of about 6km per hour under ideal driving conditions. Even though the Pride manuals suggest that the Go Chair and Go-Go Ultra Scooter can handle exactly the same terrain, I have definitely noticed a difference. I can take the scooter places that the chair simply can't handle. On the flip side of course, the chair can handle tighter spaces much more easily than the scooter so compromise must be made somewhere. The Go-Go Ultra disassembles into four pieces so it can easily fit into most car boots/trunks. The heaviest of the pieces weighs about 15.5kg but my husband lifts the whole thing into the car as is. The scooter chair swivels via a lever mechanism; this is useful in restaurants so that I can park beside a table and swivel the chair 90 degrees rather than my body. I have also removed the arms of the scooter as I find them more of a hindrance than a help. I have found all Pride products to be finished really well and they are easy to use. People often approach me to ask about Little Red and children are both fascinated and envious of my son who has been riding on my lap since he was three. (I am hopeful he will break that habit by high school). Another advantage of the Go-Go Ultra is the flat-free tyres; because they are solid, you will never get a flat tyre. Overall, the Pride Go-Go Ultra is a great little travel scooter and I would recommend it. |
