Rydges World Square, Sydney
Wheelie Long Points:
When planning a weekend in Sydney, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I could book an accessible room on the Rydges web site. Everything went smoothly until I was at the check-in desk and was told that another guest had just checked into my room! Apparently able guests often book the accessible rooms because they like the extra large shower. As my booking was for three people, the receptionist explained that she was offering me a complimentary upgrade to a larger room; of course, on seeing my scooter and printed confirmation sheet with 'King Wheelchair Room' on it, she quickly set about fixing the mistake. She compensated me and the other guest with complimentary breakfast and drink vouchers, organised for housekeeping to make the room immaculate, and ushered me and my two guests into the bar where she promised to meet us with our key as soon as the room was ready. All handled with the utmost professionalism and sincere apologies. Complaint superbly avoided! Overall, Rydges World Square was great for me and my wheels. The public areas were easy to navigate, as was the accessible room. The bathroom was fine, though some wheelies may find the hand basin a little awkward as it is set back into a slight alcove. The shower head was a bit disappointing as it was not very powerful, but maybe they are like that throughout the hotel. The only other niggle was the lack of a power point by the bed which meant that I couldn't charge my scooter overnight. In terms of location, it would be hard to beat Rydges World Square. We left our car in the valet parking for most of the weekend and I was easily able to scoot all over Sydney, especially as the hotel is right next to the World Square monorail station. The hotel itself sits above the World Square shopping complex which houses a major supermarket and numerous restaurants, food outlets and clothing stores. I would highly recommend this property to fellow wheelies. |
